This is what happened

It started with a text,
"What's up mom?"
"I'll be there when I'm dressed."
"But why mom?!"
Nothing else,
Confused, Hurt, Sad

Bell rang for sixth,
Loud, Hard, Ringing in my head,
Still confused, still hurt, still sad,
Called to the office,
Mom & Grandma puffy eyed,

"What happened mom?"
"It's your dad."
"My dad?"
"He's in the hospital...
a coma...
procedure was rushed...
went to brain...
coma..."

"What are we doing?"
"Driving to San Antonio,
pack for a couple days,
we will see him,
one,
last,
time."

Held his hand the whole time,
praying his eyes would open,
he'd sit up,
he'd smile,
he'd laugh,
he'd joke like he did before.

Tears rolling down my cheeks,
asking God why,
why now,
why here,
why me,
why him?

Heart breaking in my chest,
BEAT,
BREAK,
BEAT,
BREAK.

Had to take him off life support,
December 19, 2008,
& all I wanted to do was scream,
NO!
NOT YET!
A FEW MORE DAYS!
PLEASE!
PLEASE...
no...

I'm dying inside,
dying,
dying,
dead,
I'm a broken hearted,
fatherless,
depressed daughter,
being eaten away,
by the grief not even I can handle.

And there's no way I'll,
make it through the day,
because I'm alone,
And no one sees,
that I can't do this,
without him.
