a canvas
splattered with paint droplets
racing down like
raindrops –
on a car window
rolling down like
tears –
on a stained porcelain cheek
glistening crystals
tumbling down and they
shatter –
as they hit the ground
just like her shattered heart.

silly girl
you should have known better
than to dream.
