Into the Light

Waiting forever, always so still
Waiting in darkness as black as the night
Changing forever, changing until
I come out of the darkness and into the light

The sun bears down, the light it brings
Shining and bright, aiding my flight
I stretch my wings, fragile wings
And fly out of the darkness and into the light

I come to rest after so long
And cannot get up, try as I might
I slowly fade to the darkness beyond
But even in darkness I remember the light
