I’ve been crying in my sleep
Tears that leak out of the deep
To preserve each pearly dream
For each memory to keep
I’ve been sleeping all day through
Just so I can dream of you
And the night won’t seem so cruel
And goodbye less like adieu
I’ve been counting every day
So one doesn’t slip away
And escape with all my prayers
Force the dawn to fall astray
And that dawn will never come
With the pounding of the drum
Never wake up in your arms
Never see once more my love
