strands of wires
crawl into your arms
and feed you the cure,
but nothing is going to bring you back.
i know that now,
i'm sure.
and the monitor sings
an unfamiliar note;
i wish it would play something different,
because nobody deserves to hear
the sound of someone dying.
I would touch your face,
but you may break,
so i'll let you stay delicate;
it's the best i can do.
I stand beside the bed
in which your body lies;
i know that i should stay composed,
but i'm no good at good-byes.
so i'll let you slip away
and give in to the night.
for it's been pacing the halls
of this quiet room,
impending on the sorrows
of tomorrow's gloom.
and i remember what you told me
in that summer before the fall
that we hate the things that break us
that make us lose it all.
so i'll let you slip away
and give in to the night
it's been pacing the halls
of this quiet room
impending on the sorrows
of tomorrow's gloom.

This was pure bliss to read. I love how you compared the tone of the monitor to the sound of someone dying. I captured that sound in my mind perfectly. Beautiful poem. :)
