You are my friend.

You are the one that makes me think when I am content with myself.

You don’t call it that.

A friend by any other name.

I know you are hurting,

You are my friend.

I know you feel out of place in your body.

In the world.

No one understands,

Not even me to an extent.

But yet I am your friend.

Do you cringe when you hear the name you don’t want to be called, but that all the teachers say?

I do.

You are my friend.

We call you by your name, the one that means nothing and everything.

It confuses others but makes you happy.

All I want is for you to be happy,

You are my friend.

I hurt and I know that I’ve hurt you

When the wrong pronouns escape my lips.

There is silence,

The silence of feeling uncomfortable in your skin.

I will always try to hail you by what you wish.

You are my friend.

It’s not easy being green,

Or being you,

You are my friend.

You have depression and anxiety,

A thing I will never try to relate to my own experiences.

I know you don’t love yourself all the time.

I will always love you, whoever you are.

You are my friend.

I count the victories,

They are precious.

Whenever you go to a therapist,

You tell me.

You are my friend.

You clap,

And so do I.

I know that not everyone is that lucky.

I savor the happiness,

The happiness of my friend.

You like to be a bongo cat on the lunch Tupperware.

With my consent of course.

I let you because

You are my friend.

You are my friend,

And I am yours.

That is all that matters.
