What does it mean

To be American?

Is it being born

Of American blood?

Jus sanguinius?

Is it being born

On American soil?

Jus soli?

A child of two natures

What matters more

Birthright or birthplace?

We Americans, home to all,

scion of none

A nation built of wanderlust and

Exploration

Who are we

Built of every people

Welcoming

To judge who is “American”?

How can we define our values

When we take any values

And all values?

Our Mother of Exiles

Lifting her lamp by that golden door

Welcoming

The tired, the poor

We Americans

Who come from all walks of life

Blue collars and white collars

Colors of all different sorts

Mingling and forging a new identity

Whoever you are

A new immigrant

A generations-old legacy

Know that you are American

And that America

Land of Opportunity

Of the Free

Of the Brave

More than anything else

Welcomes all Home
