Childhood Reminiscence

The rising sun peeks through my blinds,

the faint, friendly sound of The Rolling Stones

travels up the stairs, under my door, into my ears.

Springing out of my bed, souring down the stairs,

I’m greeted by warm, fulfilling smiles.

Berries landing in my bowl,

fluffy, fresh whipped cream races to fill the empty spaces—

and it’s gone almost by the time it was ready.

Admiring the affection between those who raised me,

my cheeks tense, creating a beam across my face.

Thumping above my head gets louder and closer

Bam! Down tumbles a conjointness of body parts

rolling onto the living room floor.

“Where did I find you two?”

Mother boasts as giggles escape her mouth.

Time trickles away, and takes my youth.

Nostalgia noses its way into my thoughts—

and bittersweet feelings remain in my bones.

Strolling up the stairs, stretching out in my bed,

the setting sun peeks through my blinds.
