I was never one of them

I used to say it was my independence

My eyes have changed

I think more about it now

The chase

The quest for appeasement

Rites of passage

Like a checklist

I was and am slower to go about it

Self-consciousness fills me up inside

I feel the disconnect

Never feeling the drive, the desire

I don't know what to think of it

Is it my pursuit of organic existence

Is it their fulfillment of conventions

I've grown okay with not understanding it all

At least I tell myself

There are more important things to worry aboout
