Little peggie smith racing to the ice cream truck
Hops over an unfilled hole in the road
And grips two green dollar bills in her grubby hand
“Not enough little peggie smith” she was told.

She begs with the old keeper
Alas, she’s not getting through
She sighs, she’s done all she can
“it’s not fair!” she says,

The old ice cream man leans
Back in his chair and says
“Well, little girl, and this is to be taken seriously,
life isn’t fair”

“Everyone always
Waking up just to leave.
But all you need,
The air you breathe”

The old ice cream man leans
Back in his chair and says
“Well, little girl, and I mean this quite literally,
  life isn’t fair”

Little Peggie Smith racing back to her home,
Trips over a pothole that’s not been filled in
