"Bump. Ba da la da ba da la da bum." - Baymax, Big Hero Six

My room is full of Balloons
None of which I wish to bear
Their strings entangle, from every angle
Tugging me everywhere
The walls, they all betray me
The hour escapes my mind
My lips are moist, the strings, they hoist
My heart up, intertwined

One balloon lies shriveled
Forgotten in dust and mold
It sits all alone, like the friend I’d known
We’d part at 8 years old
A small balloon, not yet full grown
Whose dad should’ve been home soon
But Mother cries, under darkened skies
Then POP! Went that balloon

One balloon, shaped like a heart
I’d lent to someone dear
For lack of care, it sighed out air
She left without a tear
I have one wrapped around me
For years, tried to ignore
My childhood toys, my mother’s joys
All gone, as I walk out the door

Do I keep inflating more
Or do I let them go
Keep everything high on a string
So pain I’ll never know
These goodbyes are all balloons
These friends are all I know
But if I can’t say goodbye today
I’ll never say hello

This poem is the idea that goodbyes are like a bunch of balloons that can leave in so many ways and it's our job as the the owner of these balloons to determine which ones to hold onto and which ones to let go of.
