"Bump. Ba da la da ba da la da bum." - Baymax, Big Hero Six

She sits alone on a Tuesday night
Yearning for something in life to go right
She’s sits at a table set for two
In a fancy dress, poking her fondue

He’d said he’d be here around 6
He’d promised there would be no tricks
He’d talked the talk and looked the part
He was more than enough to steal her heart

It’s almost 7, I sip my wine
Not to worry, I’m sure he’s fine
Perhaps he just forgot the time

Maybe he’s sick and forgot to call
No, that can’t be it at all
He wasn’t cruel enough not to call

She looks outside to the pouring rain
As people exit the subway train
As under an umbrella, a couple stand
High and dry, hand in hand

She looks across the room to see
A teenage girl, younger than she
Out, probably on her first date
Laughing with her hew soulmate

How happy she looks, not a single care
Her face a sparkling, joyful flare
How I wish I was over there

Perhaps he doesn’t think I’m great
Maybe it’s me he’s come to hate
Because there’s no excuse for being this late

At 7:30, she’s finished her food
Why did this guy have to be so rude?
Why had he stood her up tonight
It wasn’t fair, and it wasn’t right

She pays and gets up from the table
And trudges home, fast as she’s able
When from the corner of her eye
Through a window, she saw the guy!

He’s sitting, talking and eating steak
And now my heart begins to break
His promised night was just a fake

And who with was he sharing this meal?
A blonde who probably couldn’t think or feel
Were either of their faces actually real?

Or had they both told tons of lies
Hurt many other girls and guys
She stared at him, he’d didn’t even glance
She couldn’t give him another chance

Soon, tears and rain both sting her eyes
She runs to her apartment and cries and cries
She feels so cheap and used and then
She vows not to trust a man again

Why did men want to crush my dream?
They lie, and never hear you scream
We were supposed to be a team

So now I lay alone tonight
My eyes are sore and my through is tight
And nothing in life ever goes right…

The author's comments:

I have seen so many women get hurt by men who don't care about what she feels or think and instead are only using her for his own, selfish needs and desires. This poem is an illustation of that.
