"Who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?"

They tried to teach us to how to run, and they cut off our legs
They tried to teach us to sing, and they cut out our tongues
They told us about all the fun they had, then arrested us
They gave us the ability, but took away our luck
They gave us the tools, but we built the wrong things
We can’t swim through all of this horrid muck
Oh the joys of life are truly lost with us

The wave of fear
Afraid of what we want
Even afraid of just a cold beer
Apparently all we need is something to flaunt

We need to do something for ourselves
The youth are ash born out of a prairie
Our ambition and desires have been put high up on the top shelves
Not even the confidence to find someone to marry

Somehow we have created our own crippling distractions
It is nothing of good use
Just pointless, simple, and meaningless attractions
We should just cut ourselves loose

I must admit, I am a victim of it too
But I consider myself to be media literate
I dig and I dig to find for myself what is actually true
Even if people seem me as inconsiderate

We need to step away from the screen
Our parents’ generation created them
And now the criticize of for using them
With our heads down, there is so much that is unseen

Throughout the week, worried about a text
A computer small enough to fit in your pocket is not good enough
What the hell is next?
A day without it is not so rough

Go outside and listen
There are beautiful sounds you can hear from a distance
The sun and moon and the stars, you can see them glisten
The world is beautiful
And you can almost hear the human’s coexistence

Look up at the person to you right and to your left
See their face . . . see their face
Wasting time is theft
And not making a difference is a waste of space

Someday we’ll be together
Someday we’ll go far
Together we can fight through this weather
Because our generation will someday raise the bar

Someday . . .

Someday we’ll finally let loose
The generation under the microscope
Will be put in a noose
With that, I don’t think we can cope

Day after day, locked in
Is this noble?
Why do we grin
When this catastrophe has gone global

None of this makes sense
Why have we found excuses for being alone?
Apparently now, satire through technology is our only defense
Our hearts have turned to mush that has the appearance of thick stone

Give me bliss, please
I beg of you
I am begging on my knees
Give me a life that is true
