Like the birds that soar above me,
I’d rather die
than be captured and caged.
So watch me glide high.

No one can shoot me down
when I sail through the sky,
Into the golden horizon.
Without a single goodbye.

I have wings,
though ruffled and weak,
they’ll take me far away from my fear.
And I'll be free to speak.

I’ll find a place
where I can do as I please.
I’ll land there
and never again fall to my knees.

Because I’ll be away from my anguish.
With no more crying.
I promised to find paradise and content.
So I’ve taken off and now I’m flying.

Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame,
Where there is a flame someone's bound to get burned.
Just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die,
You've got to get up and try.

This is a very insightful piece. Very honest and I feel it describes the teenage experience of longing for freedom. Beautifully written!
