With Her At Last

I saw the light as it called out to me, that pleasant autumn day
That instance I knew the timing was right, for my feelings had gone away

There was just one thing I had to do before I accepted my going
I had to fulfill my debt to you, for my body was already slowing

I arrived at the spot we knew so well, the place where we found our connection
I recalled the promises we used to tell as we walked this same direction

I came to the stone where you forever lie, and knelt down at the roses
It now was my turn, my time to die, as the earth slowly decomposes

With my last breath I smiled and said “I can be with you at last”
Then I was gone, surrounded by the red of the roses that mark my past
