Looking Back This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

A garden of wilted words
Not catered to for many moons
A sky full of her lost hopes
Let go like colorful balloons
A sea of forgotten dreams
Vanished, moments after waking
And pounds of wasted armor
That couldn't save her heart from breaking

A backyard, now gone wild
Where she spent her childhood years
A fantasy, yellowed and faded
Of a land with no terror or tears
A secret guarded too carefully
Left behind, buried in the ground
Her past, with pieces now missing
She's not searching, so they won't be found

A fort of blankets and chairs
That no villain could ever find
But shelter can only protect so long
And the world remains unkind
A soft lullaby, sung to the stars
Now skips, thoroughly worn out
Once, secrets were whispered
But now, I'm afraid you'll have to shout

Growing into the future that fit her
Growing up and growing old
She'll take care to remember the world
When times weren't so cruel and cold
