‘Honor, glory’, they did promise all
‘You’ll return a hero, guaranteed.’
This what we expected, but with night fall
The truth revealed is nothing as it seemed.

Oh, what woe they place upon a soldier
Hiding in the trenches for our life.
We sit amidst the danger and the terror,
And the dread and the peril and the strife.

We were promised pride but we found sorrow
We were promised fame, but we found death.
Now we have to wait until tomorrow
To find what other chaos war inflicts

Oh, what woe they place upon a soldier
Hiding in the trenches for our life.
We sit amidst the danger and the terror,
And the dread and the peril and the strife.

I see my commander crouched behind me
Fearful of the danger on its way.
Why should soldiers kill each other coldly
To solve somebody else’s grim debate?

Oh, what woe they place upon a soldier
Hiding in the trenches for our life.
We sit amidst the danger and the terror,
And the dread and the peril and the strife.

As a boy, I dreamt of going to battle
Fighting boldly, killing coldly, all in Justice’s name.
Now I see my comrades die like cattle
Is the enemy the only one to blame?

Oh, what woe they place upon a soldier
Hiding in the trenches for our life.
We sit amidst the danger and the terror,
And the dread and the peril and the strife.
