Susan Boyle Ballad

This story here is of rags and riches
But didn’t get on without its share of hitches
In the world’s ears an alarm bell rang
When Susan Boyle opened her mouth and sang
She proved them wrong, those who believed
That talent corresponded with the looks they perceived

Though she always possessed this awesome power
It took forty-eight years for her golden hour
Bullied and simple as a child
Never quite known for her savvy style
People would look and simply pooh-pooh
For they judged on looks, not what she could do

Life dragged on, almost too late
She decided to leave her future to fate
With nothing to lose, she went with the flow
And ended up on a talent show
Britain’s Got Talent – who would have thunk
One Les Miz song was such a slam-dunk

She sang with such gusto, truly a bang
And shockingly made the judges’ mouths hang
“Brilliant!” they cried, “Now that’s the good stuff!”
“It turns out appearance is meaningless fluff!”
It shook up the world, all truly adored
It’s safe to say it struck quite a chord

All over the globe – such popularity!
She won over crowds with honest sincerity
“A new era dawns”, the newspapers said
“Where people are judged on substance instead”
She proved that there was no need for pity
For those who are not exactly known to be pretty

This story here is of rags and riches
But didn’t get on without its share of hitches
In the world’s ears an alarm bell rang
When Susan Boyle opened her mouth and sang
She proved them wrong, those who believed
That talent corresponded with the looks they perceived
