Fifty-Nine Years Ago

Fifty-nine years ago,
In a park so far from school,
We skipped out of class,
To play at the pool.
With no money and no cares,
We jumped into the water,
With the sun on our dark backs,
As the day grew hotter.
Fifty-nine years passed,
None of us stayed in high school.
At the time, we didn’t care that
Instead of college we went to the pool.
With no money and much care,
We barely managed to get by.
Living with our parents,
We could never spread our wings and fly.
