Monday
Royal blue
Placid, indifferent
Blamed it on lack of sleep
Smells like heating ducts on full blast
Feels like Jell-O made last week
Tuesday
Pink
Until ten o’clock
Then, slowly it shifts to a simmering red
Looks like potatoes almost boiling over
Starchy water threatening an impossible mess
Wednesday
A strange burnt orange
Residual resentment battling regret
Tried to let go while still holding on
Tastes like coffee without enough sugar
Sounds like a tea kettle, just unplugged
Thursday
Green
Every shade
Quiet, loud, sullen, bouncy
Smells like Christmas trees and overdone air freshener
Looks like an upside-down kaleidoscope
Friday
Purple
Expectant, excited
Then a deep, deep ache
Jealously? Daydreams? Flu?
Tastes like lemonade made by a five-year old
Strong enough to clench your jaw
Saturday
Pale, pale blue
The kind Crayola calls “Robin’s Egg”
Happy and peaceful, at least trying
Feels like touching an ice cube in a hot tub
Sounds like a bird taking flight
Sunday
Yellow
Busyness appears out of nowhere
But I’m still looking up with a smile
Feels like sunlight on an upturned face
Sounds like strings, playing music to the sky

This originaated as a school assignment to write a piece about color. It turned into an expression of everything that happened in my week.
