Born small in a country large,
A hated people in a country poor,
Daddy leaves for a better life
Walked out the country’s door.
A better life for all of us,
Because he loves us.
Because he loves us.

Days go by,
Weeks and months, and daddy doesn’t return.
Mommy sells her clothes and things
As I begin to earn.
A richer life for all of us,
Because I love them.
Because I love them.

I toddle to the market,
Selling that which is gulped for free,
The people hand over potatoes
Do they feel bad for me?
Will it matter when I bring the food
Back to my family table?
I’m a proud 5-year old doing all that I am able.

On daddy’s letters and loaves of bread
My family does survive,
Russians chase us and we must hide
But G~D keeps us alive.
Giving life to all of us
Because he loves us.
Because he loves us.

Finally the time has come.
The war comes to a bloody close,
And father sends us money
To escape from the shadows.
A new life awaits us
In the land of opportunity.
A chance to start all over in a new community.

A chance, a life for all of us,
Because he loves us.
Because he loves us.
