Enchanted

My figure breaks through the icy water,
Causing waves to scurry.
Time stops when I go under,
There is no reason to worry.

When below the surface,
I feel safe, relaxed, at ease.
But then, the symptoms kick in,
And I lose the strength in my knees.

My vision becomes blurry,
My nose begins to burn.
My heart pounds rapidly,
And my stomach decides to churn.

Everything changes colors,
From blue, to gray, to black.
And then I start to wonder
How I will get back.

My lungs yearn for air
My head feels like it’s spinning.
My body becomes feeble,
I am no longer grinning.

A sea of lies
Is all that surrounds me.
And then, I go down.
I feel anything but free.

The water takes control
I know this is the end.
Oh, how I long to
Summon the strength to ascend.

When I hit the bottom,
And am convinced life is gone,
I feel myself being lifted,
I will carry on!

I rapidly emerge,
Gasping for breath.
The pain is still present,
Knowing that I could have left.

I was saved by you,
And for that, I will always be grateful.
The sun now shines brighter
I will never be hateful.

The radiance is back,
Blooming with every second.
I want it all back
I can’t help but beckon.

Thanks to you, I am here.
I will never take it for granted.
Death was one step away,
Yet the water is still enchanted.
