I am slowly getting old now
I used to be a child
Finally I am a woman
But I’m not running wild

My childhood was not too long ago
But I got to move on
My parents still love me a lot
But soon I will be gone

I must start a new life today
And finally find me
Its time to run off to college
Time for me to be free

We will say our very long goodbyes
Holding back all our tears

Mama will whimper “Be careful!”
I’ll say “Please don’t you fear!”

I will miss my family much
But Athens is not far
I will be home for holidays
Just gotta crank up the car

Ride back to good ole Statesboro
My permanent home
Where I made forever friends
That I call on the phone

Where I got my first new puppy
Where I got my first job
Went to football games every week
And had my first real sob

Bouta be off to Athens G-A
To be off on my own
I have to do my own thing now
I have no time to moan

I will definitely be back
Don’t you worry bout that
To visit the ones I love most
To have a little chat

I hope I don’t miss anything
Like my niece growing up
Or my old friends changing
Or my cousin saying “Wassup”

Its bout time to start a new life
And finally find me
Its time to run off to college
Time for me to be free
