Studious Student
Pleasant people ponder my academic brain.
I’m not outstanding or about the personal gain.
Still when I tell them,
They act like I’m insane.
I exclaim,
It’s from the depths of my grey matter,
The folds of my lobes,
The pulses of electricity,
The intersection of my nodes.
I am a student.
A seriously, studious student.
I am.
I enter the classroom like everyone else.
Part of the herd,
Without a strong sense of self.
Then their eyes are on me,
Hungry for my wealth,
Those ravenous, voyeuristic vultures.
I exclaim,
It’s the breaking of the bell curve,
And the height of my score,
The one who gets called on,
And is always ready for more.
I am a student.
A seriously, studious student.
I am.
Fellow classmates have wondered,
Why the teachers are for me.
They too are good students,
They do try their best,
They work hard,
They keep up with the rest.
Yet they themselves struggle,
To see what makes me, me.
I exclaim,
Yet, still they don’t agree.
It’s the work I put in,
And all for the gain,
Never an attitude,
I do not wish to cause pain.
I am a student.
A seriously, studious student.
I am.
I am not sorry for my high GPA,
I have worked my whole life,
Each and every day.
These grades did not come easy,
I do not have a trick.
I buckled down and did it,
Sometimes it made me sick.
I exclaim,
I'm not one to boast or lord overhead.
But I would be left in the dust,
By simply staying in bed.
My education is personal,
And I am thankful for my knowledge.
So thankful to my educators,
For helping me achieve my dream of college.
I am who I am,
‘Cause I am a student.
A seriously, studious student.
I am.
