I don't want to prove myself to you
But I do
In ink and number two
My numbers don't add up
Or divide down
And maybe my words stick
To lined paper
But in the end,
To you,
I'm a few percentages,
A letter,
In an envelope.

I wrote this while filling out National Honors Society applications. My desperation to fit academia's definition of a good person sometimes depresses me.
