What Kind of Friend Do You Want?
What kind of friend do you want?
do you want someone to tell you what you want to hear?
call you ugly and a freak that doesn’t deserve to live?
tell you all these lies so it’s easier to cry at night?
What kind of friend do you want?
do you want someone who wants you to suffer?
watches you erupt in flames?
and doesn’t even try to stop the burning?
What kind of friend do you want?
i can’t tell you the things you want to hear
lying isn’t my strong suit
especially not to you
What kind of friend do you want?
i will never step aside willingly
you fight me, you always have
you probably always will
What kind of friend do you want?
fight all you want, i will never see things your way
i will never see you as ugly or trash
and i think a part of you will always hate me for that.

I wrote this piece for my best friend, who has a low self esteem and is constantly putting herself down, and wants others to join in. I am the only one who never joins in, and that is where the hurt that formed this poem came from.
