"Actually, I just woke up one day and decided I didn't want to feel like that anymore, or ever again. So I changed. Just like that."

The monster under my bed

Keeps me company through the night

And despite what others have said

He doesn't bring me freight

It's the dark

That drags me by my feet

Leaves my body covered in marks

And suffocating in heat

My monster protects me

By leaving me sweet dreams

But when the darkness leaves me be

It gives my monster tormented screams

The pain my monster feels

Turns my mind to nightmares

And although these events we both conceal

It's a burden of hurt we share

The author's comments:

I have trouble sleeping at night sometimes due to my anxiety, and my thoughts that keep my brain going. I tried to express my feelings through this poem.
