“God, of your goodness, give me yourself; you are enough for me, and anything less that I could ask for would not do you full honour. And if I ask anything that is less, I shall always lack something, but in you alone I have everything”

If there is moonlight out,
You will see all of the glimmering lake,
The waves will lap over and around you,
And the water and the light make a sweet harmony of their own,

Some people cannot see it,
But see it void and black,
The few that see it,
Perceive in it beauty and fascination,
A foundation of intrigue,
And a yearning for some understanding,

The clouds float across the lake of water,
You can peek through the blanket haze,
At pale white banks of thoughts and memories,

Here,
The moonlight reveals broken hearts,
The shattered hopes,
The never-ending dreams,

And now and then it occurs that one may glimpse, Some hope in an instance,
But always behind them,
The haunting shadows of the past,
Like waves in the moonlight.

The author's comments:
This piece is a mirror of a paragraph in "Cry, the Beloved Country", a book by Alan Paton. The paragraph is totally by me, but mirrors his style of writing on page 41 of the book.

"There are three rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."~W. Somerset Maugham

Really intense. Beautiful job as always. The imagery is wonderfully done. As windswift said, it really does get the wheels of your brain turning. The whole poem is kind of a peek into the mind of an ordinary person, and running your fingers across all the items on that hidden shelf in the deep recesses of their head. I really hope Teen Ink publishes this.

let it burn, suffering teaches the soul; let it grow, love nourishes the heart.

i liked this poem quite a bit, it drew my attention and made the wheels of my mind start to turn. there is nothing else to say about this poem exept that its a five of five. its rare that i find a piece of work like this one, one that purely immprobable, in other words i would have never guessed that there was a poem like this one floating around, esecaily on teen ink. this is pretty much the reason that i visit teenink and post my own work on teen ink, there poems that could be published a thousand times over and still not be worn out. this is one of those poems that could be published a thousand times and not be worn out. there are so many good authors on teen ink that it drives me crazy, why cant there be a place were all of the best authors could get together and share all of there best work with the best of poeple, when it comes to writing?
