I miss the way things use to be.
Nothing will ever be the same again, and I know that.
Obviously, I don't want to believe it; and I can't, but I have to.
I hate thinking about what it could have been,
and how I could have been saved, but I don't need to be saved.

This is why I am who I am today.

And I don't wanna believe it, but I know I have to.
And I'm just trying to see it, how you do.
Who are you? This isn't you.
You don't know what you put me through.
Goodbye old life, say hello to the new.

I'm gunna break out and put the past behind me now.
No more screaming, no more shouting,
Please, no more leavin.
I won't forget what you've done, but I'll try to believe that;
it's gunna take time, but I've learned more.
And that's a fact

This is why I am who I am today

And I don't wanna believe it, but I know I have to.
And I'm just trying to see it, how you do.
Who are you? This isn't you.
You don't know what you put me through.
Goodbye old life, say hello to the new.

The new life, is how I will live.
This new life, the only thing you can give me.
I'll forgive, but never can forget.
I'm hurt, and yet,
I'll live this new life and everything it will be.
I believe, yes I believe.

But I don't wanna believe it, but I know I have to.
And I'm just trying to see it, how you do.
Who are you? This isn't you.
You don't know what you put me through.
Goodbye old life, say hello to the new.
The new, hello new, I believe in the new.

The author's comments:
I wrote this about my dad. There has been a lot of things going on since my parents got divorced...I hope to show that out of all the bad things that have happened, I have grown.
I started out just writing, and it turned into a song/poetry.
