As we Watched the Piano Man...

I walked into a place the other night
They were playin' Billy Joel by the candlelight
There was a feelin' in the air,
It wasn't cold nor despair
The place was empty, mostly
The people that were there held each other closely
They were gatherin' 'round a man

Playin' on the piano stand
Oh, the music it was grand
He didn't even need to watch his hand
I just had to stand
And watch that piano man
Playin' as best he can
His hands ran
Up and down that piano

All our faces seemed to glow
The song had a good flow
We couldn't believe it was over
As he stood up and took a bow
We all yelled now
That's when I looked around
And saw a crowd
Oh, they were really loud

All for that piano man
He really played on that piano stand
Playin' as best he can
Oh, the music was grand
Got us all up to stand
Just to watch the piano man
Who didn't even watch his hand

None of us had any plan
To see the man
Who played the piano grand
He made us putty in his hand
Almost like sand
Left us in a trance
Men all ready to dance
Women already in prance
He didn't give us a second glance
As he got in his new Lance
Up on that stage
We hadn't even turned the page
In all this rage
The war we wage

Just to watch the piano man
Playin' as best he can
On that piano stand
Oh, the music it was grand
He didn't even watch his hand
Playin' on the piano stand

The last thing he said to us
You might find it contagious
Even when it's dangerous
But always take a chance
Even with a consequence
Don't give it a second glance
'Cuz you should only have one chance
