Freedom Reigns

There is a friend I keep with me throughout every day,
In secret we whisper of the ocean or of sneaking away.
My friend will never forfeit, not even while I sleep,
The moment my lids close it creeps into my dreams.
Depicting images of the world, and all I’ve yet to see,
Making me a fairytale or someone I could never really be.
My friend gets me in trouble; I am forced to store it away,
Life captures innocence and replaces it with disarray.
We laugh at others, and yet sometimes we must empathize,
‘Sometimes we forget to dream, please do not apologize.’
People these days are old shirts battered and worn,
Gleeful children walk the path to a future forlorn,
But open your eyes and you will see the sun rise,
Your life need not be one you despise.
There are places to go and dreams to fulfill,
There is only one thing you need:
A friend called Free Will.

This poem was good...I like how you kept talking about "your friend" and it turned out to be Free Will..Good job. This poem was unique and had its own flow..Keep it up.
