"Art will remain the most astonishing activity of mankind born out of struggle between wisdom and madness, between dream and reality in our mind." - Magdalena Abakanowicz

Every morning when I awake I stumble to the mirror.
I look at the reflection staring back at me and see a girl I don’t know,
A girl built out of lies and unwanted disguises.
I cover up who I am;
I make myself pretty for you.

I lie to you,
I lie to him,
I lie to her,
And I lie to you all;
Worst of all I lie to myself.

I am your little liar,
Your dearest little girl,
The one you have taught so well.

Tell people what they want to hear and nothing more.
Cover up the bad and pretend everything will get better.
That’s what you’ve always said.

I’m your dearest little liar,
Aren’t you so proud of the person I’ve become?
Just like you, I lie to everyone.

Don’t trust anyone
And always make sure you look around.
Keep your lies straight,
You never want to get caught.

Keep your heart guarded
And my dear,
Never tell them what you’re really thinking.
Everything will be okay; I swear I’m fine, really.
Why would I ever lie?

Never tell them how you feel;
It gives them more power,
The ability to tear you down further.
Trust me my dear,
Why would I ever lie?

I’m only protecting you,
You know their all liars too.
They feed you what you want to hear
And then tear it all out from under you.

What you don’t believe me,
My dear,
Why would I ever lie to you?
You can trust me;
I promise I’ll never hurt you.

You taught me everything,
The exact way to push away everything I need.
You taught me everything,
The perfect way to force the people I want to never come closer.
This is true
Now tell me,
Why would I ever lie to you?

You make promises,
You never plan to keep.
You force these disguises on me.
You show me the way of life,
The way to never get hurt.
This is true
Now tell me,
Why would I ever lie to you?

You’ve shown me,
You’ve taught me,
The way to keep them all way,
At a further distance
Than arms length.

You’ve taught me well,
You’ve taught me how to be alone.

This is true
Now tell me,
Why would I ever lie to you?
We’re both in this game,
The game we’ve come to play so well.
I won’t back down,
And my dear
I know you.

You lie to me,
You lie to him,
You lie to her,
And you lie to everyone;
Worst of all you lie to yourself.

I lie to you,
I lie to him,
I lie to her,
And I lie to everyone;
Worst of all I’ve started to believe all of the lies I’ve fed myself.

i love your poem. it's very descriptive, and opens up an unknown world to most out there.
