Afraid To Touch

I was there when it happened…

Afraid to look, afraid to touch…

But I was there...

Through it all, you still wore your smile…

With your nails and toes all done ( hot pink )…
I was there…

Afraid to look, afraid to touch…

But I was there….

We spoke with no words…
Expressed ourselves with our hearts…

I was there…

Afraid to look, afraid to touch…

But I was there...
Unable to move, unable to talk…
Mouthed the words “I love you”…
And those were the words I mocked…
But I was there…
All I can say is that I was there…
I was there…
I was there...
Too afraid to look, too afraid to touch…
This is what I tell myself…
Wasn’t ready to let you go…
Wasn’t ready to say goodbye…

I was there...
Too afraid to look, too afraid to touch…
But I was there…

The author's comments:
This poem is about my great grandma and how she passes... I was at the hospital when it all happen, but ii was afraid to go inside her room because ii felt that ii would end up hurting her or messing up something. After my great grandmother passed I started to feel guilty of not even going in her room. I felt that if she only knew I was there, her outcome would have been more pleasant. Now I know it wasn't my fault...
