Letter to the New Kid on the Block
No one looks you in the eye
That’s the worst part.
Not the sleeping on cardboard
Or begging for food,
But the lack of acknowledgement
Like everyone’s embarrassed of your existence.
I guess they’re thinking,
Out of sight, out of mind
When they throw some change at your feet
As if throwing away a piece of trash.
It wouldn’t be so bad,
Just a nod of the head or a small glance of acceptance.
But no one looks you in the eye
That’s the worst part.
