Like bright lights shining,
In an overpowering pool of dark,
Caught in the endless turmoil,
Trying to keep their spark.

Like diamonds in the dust,
They dwindle out of sight,
The glimmers of last hope,
In the middle of the night.

They've existed through everything,
Misery, pain and doubt,
But who really notices,
When their final spark goes out.

The last lights of heaven,
Consumed by an unforgiving sky,
Staring down on us from above,
As time passes idly by.

They fight bravely on,
Holding onto their precious light,
Pushing back the neverending shadow,
Struggling with all their might.

To them at night we look,
As our wondering hearts do tend,
But could we live without them,
If they failed to shine in the very end?

Poetry is my life. Without it I wouldn't know what to do.
