Dark Abyss

Tonight on this dark and misty winter night,
That seems beautiful to all but me
Lurks a danger that only I can see

Below these steps waits a dark abyss
Like a trap
Stronger than steel
Seeming more beautiful than the rising sun

Waiting to catch the unsuspecting
In it’s deadly snare

It can do no physical harm
And yet many would prefer death than this
For your soul cannot get away
If you have been caught

It is the lure of the most evil
The one who will take so many with him
To the burning lake

What inspired me to write this was I was looking down an outdoor staircase, a misty fog all around as far as you could see. It almost seemed like if anyone went down those stairs and into the night something that could be waiting down there could get to you when you reached the ground.
