My Confession

December 11, 2008
By Anonymous

I am ready to reconcile myself
Ready to confess my sins to the world
Hear me Lord
I am telling You my heart’s tales

See the rags lying beneath the designer clothes
See the tears behind the smile
I am the lie that the stories talk about
I am mystery hiding beneath the school

Listen to my sorrow
Help me rid my body of worries
I want to breathe softly again
See myself as others see me

Confession time for me
I am ready to confess the deeds my mind has done
The words that never reached my lips
But clouded my mind for eternity

I am mystery
I am the lie
See the rags
See the tears

I am ready to reconcile myself
Ready to confess my sins to the world
Hear me Lord
I am telling You my heart’s tales

Bring me love
Bring me peace
Bring me sleep
Bring me Your holy forgiveness

What inspired me to write this piece was how much I wanted to be different and be the person I knew I could be. Everyone used to tell me that I was a wonderful person, but I never really believed them. I was depressed and poetry was my way of expressing my hopes, dreams and worst fears. I feel like that's what writing poetry is all about. Letting yourself be who you really are. Without meaning, a poem is just a poem. With meaning, a poem is a journey into a person's soul.
