Sinking

I remember falling overboard
I fell right off the ship
into the cold and dark fjord
in my own tears I slipped.
The water wrapped around me
and slowly down I sank
I knew that I was drowning
on that lonely riverbank.
By mistake I’d tied an anchor
and wrapped the rope around my heart
and as my mind grew darker
the weighing down did start.
If I could let go of my sorrows
If I could bring myself to care
Then I could survive until tomorrow
and maybe even breathe some air.
I could let go of my burdens
I could use them as an oar.
I know that I deserve it,
to get myself to shore.
