It's Not a Possibility

Life without basketball,
Frankly very boring.
So empty,
So wasted,
So pitiful.

The orange I need, gone from the day.
Could there be fun another way?
As exciting?
As happy?
As fun?

I ask myself the question, always to no avail,
What would I do? What would I be?
A student?
A musician?
A couch potato?

All those hours I’d spend outside, enjoying life
And passing time. Where would I go?
The mall?
The movies?
The rink?

Let’s not find out.
Because basketball is my water
My flesh and my blood.
Without it I expire,
With it I prosper.

Basketball’s my love.
It demands loyalty and responsibility.
It gives back to me
Fulfillment and peace.
Nothing more, nothing less.

So life without basketball?
It’s not a possibility.
