When I finally found who I was supposed to be
No one seemed to like this new improved me.
So they all went off to laugh and play,
Leaving me to go and find my own way.
It took too long to see who I was before was fake.
Now I have to sit and watch my relationships break.
I guess they were scared, but I don’t know why.
They left me alone. They didn’t even try.
At first I held on with all my strength and might,
Then quickly realized these people weren’t worth the fight.
There weren’t worth the tears, the pain, the heartache.
They left, and stole everything they could take.

I know now it may be hard to comprehend,
But please finally listen and you might understand.
I know I used to be the girl who only smiled,
Who only laughed, who was always in denial.
Who was so afraid to lose everyone,
When in reality, she was only close to losing one.
And that someone was the most important of all,
Because if I lost myself, I would surely fall.

Strange it may seem, but I wouldn’t change.
It might be crazy now, but I can rearrange.
These people don’t matter to me.
They can’t change who I’m meant to be.
And who cares if they don’t want to be my friend?
When everything gets tough, I’ll be with the best in the end.
The ones who didn’t leave. The ones who always knew.
The ones who loved unconditionally. The ones who were true.

So, I’m sorry that I wasn’t what you wanted.
I’m sorry that you think my behavior is unwarranted.
I’m sorry I stopped being your doormat.
I’m sorry you could never see past that.
I’m sorry you thought I was too sassy.
I’m sorry you didn’t find that classy.
I’m sorry I was only being honest.
I’m sorry for always being modest.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry
For going rogue and changing your story.
I’m sorry, everyone, for this change out of the blue,
But I could no longer stand trying to be just like you.

True story, guys. Let me just say this: Always be yourself and don't let others define you who are.
