Minds are like parachutes. They only function when they are open.

That sound wouldn’t let me sleep.
I heard it again and again. There was no one around.
No one moving. No one talking. No one laughing.
And to think about it made me shiver.

I could hear rumbling drums and a marching band.
I could hear cars passing by.
I could hear a baby cry.
But it was all down deep in my mind.

I heard it again, slowly creeping through my ears as I shivered.
There was no one around.
No one moving. No one talking. No one laughing.
But this sound was not in my mind.

I couldn hear rumbling drums and a marching band.
I could hear cars passing by.
I could hear a baby cry.
But all down deep in my mind.
All I could really hear,
was the sound of silence.

The author's comments:
Usually, when I am alone and there are no sounds around, I start imagining things and, somehow, I get that sense that makes me feel as if there was something around making sounds. When I pay attention to that, the sounds disspapear since they are all just in my mind.
