Memories Lost

Defeated faces

Battered with deceiving smiles,

Making the effort to appear
tolerant

Of the other.

Sheltering paternal eyes harden

With Arctic blasts infusing with our atmosphere.

Struggling to avoid

Suffering from a blow,

I think back to the days of way back when,

Where their smiles enveloped the souls of passer-by.

Restlessness builds

Among us,

Pulsing, throbbing

In breathless veins.

Cringing slightly, as I

Await the unmasking of this marvelous

Masquerade

Feeling bewildered,

A deer caught in headlights

Awaiting the outcome

Of this potential collision

until-

Behold!

Jarred emotions run loose

My face held against the shards

Unruly, rebellious, mischievous

Demons

Grabbing hold

Of

Their

Corrupted souls.

I

turn

away,

courting

memories

lost.

I love your poem! It's written so well-I can imagine how every stanza would look in real life. You make great use of imagery.
