To speak or not to speak, that is the question:
Whether or not to hold our tongue
And let silent thoughts linger within our minds,
Or to let that voice be heard
And risk the merciless stabs of scorn and judgment.
The threat of offending,
When one reflection leaves the mouth
And morphs into a hideous beast within another’s ear.
And by these words condemns oneself. To judge, to mock -
It is all at the mercy of interpretation.
Why not evade the monster and remain unspoken?
Another may have the same words to say,
Perhaps in a better practiced tongue.
Why not wait for time to come again,
When one’s beliefs can be reflected upon and improved?
Save oneself from the seclusion of the outspoken fool.
But to remain passive to the world,
One is at another risk,
Of drowning within the depths of unchallenged ideals,
And becoming a mere puppet to another’s words.
Who is to challenge Time,
And proclaim when another opportunity for change will arise?
When one lets these chances fade
Along with overlooked potential and forgotten dreams.
