Yo, I had a heck of a summer.
It’s over now which is a bit of a bummer.
No, I didn’t get to ride in a fancy hummer.
But, I got to meet a pretty dern good Irish drummer.

So, I got to do all sorts a cool things.
However, I didn’t get to go to Buffalo Wild Wings.
But, I got to see one of the world’s kings.
And I always try to answer the phone when it rings.

So, this is a bit about my summer break.
I will try not to bore for your sake.
Let’s don’t sit out in the sun to long or we will bake.
Then it will feel good to jump in a nice lake.
Let’s get started shall we- bout my summer break.

So, school let out back in May.
Went up to Ohio on the last day.
Celebrated my mom’s dad’s 95th b-day,
he was still doing okay.
There ain’t much else of that matter to say.

A bit of stuff happened in June.
I wish it hadn’t come then gone so dang soon.
Didn’t even get much of a chance to look at da moon,
and sure didn’t have to pop no balloon.

So, I had a Boy Scout Jamboree ‘Shakedown”.
Some kids had themselves a swim test to make sure they wasn’t gonna drown.
To lead the troop was like being in a whole different town.
But, I knew the jamboree sure wasn’t gonna make me frown.

Don’t mean to brag but, in June I also turned seventeen.
No, to celebrate I didn’t drink no Jim Bean.
On that idea my mom wouldn’t have been too keen.
I also didn’t get no lean, mean-fat reducin grillin machine!

So like before, I had a heck of a summer break.
I’ll try not to bore for your sake.
So let’s don’t sit in the sun long or we’ll bake.
Then it will feel pretty dern good to jump in a lake.
But for now, let’s continue bout my summer break.

So towards the end of June I went to Work Camp.
We helped people out but, didn’t act like a champ.
Helpin paint, put in windows or, build a wheel chair ramp.
With a bit of sweat our clothes got damp.

I was with Crew #15.
There was Jacob, Brianna, Sarah, and Christy.
We weren’t out to save no queen.
Painted part of a house but, it sure wasn’t green!

We had a crew leader named Greg.
Each day Jacob and I switched our name tag-
I guess that was how we showed our ‘swag’!
Each mornin Brianna got the lunch bag.

Each day I helped paint with my crew.
We sure weren’t workin on makin no home brew.
I’ve never gotten myself trapped in a drive-thru.
The last day we went to 7-11 and the cashier’s name was Sue.

Yo, we had a contractor named Rob.
He said he liked corn on the cob.
Was there to help us with our job.
He also had a friend named Bob.

So, each day Jacob- la quartermaster would get da needed supplies.
We’d take off and they’d throw candy- sometimes with a few tries.
We never got to wear bow ties.
But, we swatted a couple of flies.

During the car ride Christy led us in prayer.
All through the week our hair didn’t get any greyer.
No, none of us was a town mayor.
Nor were we a zombie slayer.

Yo, Sarah- the safety inspector, always tellin us to drink lot’s a water.
She said it’s only getting hotter and hotter.
We sure didn’t see Harry Potter
And, we didn’t get to solder.

Yeah, Brianna always yelling: “ATTITUDE CHECK” we’d answer: “PRAISE THE LORD!”
I sure don’t drive no Honda Accord.
We never saw a Mustang made by Ford.

Eventually came the end of da week.
Some of us may have fixed a pipe leak.
We had become a little stronger after being a little weak.
It was time to leave our new friends but, on Facebook we would seek.

So this is still a bit bout my summer break.
Let’s don’t sit in the blazin sun to long or we’ll bake.
Then it would feel good to jump in a nice, cool lake.
But, I will continue bout my summer break.

So work camp was over but, summer- not yet.
Was there gonna be more fun? - You bet!
It was now just a few weeks till Jamboree- I needed to get set.
I was gonna have an awesome time but, also get a little wet.

Then 4th of July came around.
Parked cars and listened to some nice band sound.
Some good eattin at the Benyo’s tent I found.
The fireworks were awesome- within eleven day’s I would be Jambo bound.

So, I finished packin my gear.
I was so excited to have tons of fun that I could cheer.
I couldn’t believe that it was so near.
Da fact that I had to lead the troop was a bit of a fear.

Pretty soon I was off for the Boy Scout Jamboree.
I would get to do things like zip from tree to tree.
I wouldn’t just sit around on my bum drikin tea.
There were so many cool things that would make you say “well gee.”

Some things I got to do were white water raft, zip-line, and kayak.
Yo, I always carried my backpack.
I tried to do as much as I could and not slack.
Lunch was always basically just a big snack.

Yeah, it was a bit of a sensation-
seein all sorta folk from around the nation-
bout 40,000 was the population.
It made for a heck of a vacation.

One day we took a hike up to “Garden Ground”.
All sorts of frontier games and display’s we found.
My pack musta weighed more than a pound.
I watched as BMX bikers did cool tricks off the mound.

It was really cool gettin to see Three Doors Down and Mike Rowe.
On Sunday, there was an awesome firework show.
I didn’t get to shoot a bow,
but while white water rafting, I got to row.

Yo, there’d always be people tryin to trade patch.
You needed to know what you were lookin for to get a good batch.
There was many a set you could snatch.
Or you could earn merit badges to add to your sash.

After a bit of rain, it seemed like we was always a walkin in la mud.
No, they didn’t show cartons with Elmer Fud.
They didn’t even pass out no boxes of milk duds!
I got a goat who is always chewin his cud.

Well, them ten days went by fast.
When headin home, it seemed it didn’t last.
Now this is all a part of my recent past.
Luckily I didn’t need no cast.

So, this is a bit more about my summer break.
We might as well get out of the sun now or we will bake.
Then it would feel great to jump into a lake.
But first, let me finish bout my summer break.

Now I had two weeks to finish my summer assignment.
My brother went to summer camp at Rock Enon- sort of wish I had went.
Tried several a time to start a fire with steel and flint,
and I have slept in many a tent.

Well summer is over- back in school.
Now that I think of it, it’s kinda cool.
For others, they just sit and drool.
No, I currently ain’t in a pool!
Now how bout you- how was your summer?

The author's comments:
So, I had a really filled/exciting summer this year with the Catholic Diocese of Arlington Work Camp and the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. Because of this, I figured I would write about it in a rap! Here you go: enjoy!
