Dragon's Keep

Tromping to the Dragon’s keep
Over plains fair and mountains steep
“Beware the light of the dragon sun!
It taketh all life before the day is done.”
Believe me, loved one, your prayer I need
Not by will I attempt this deed
For hands, bound by chains of vine
Make the choice that is not mine.
My friend above, my friend below
We stalk the sunset, silence in row
Chills shared leap from breast to breast
Some cry out, screaming for a jest
But this be no prank, the way we go
To the depths of the wings’ wind blow
So keep up pace! There is no hope
Lest on vital living we grope.
The air grows heavy with the gray of sleep
Out of spite we begin to weep
For sky changes to clouds of stone
And our frames to that of bone
As our imaginations suddenly leap
at the presence of the Dragon’s keep.
