The cold wind bites my cheek
As tears frozen into ice
Fall down and crash onto the floor,
Broken, and gone forever.

I glance down
At the shattered remains
Of my life,
Broken, and gone forever.

But my eyes are not done crying
I discover as I put my hand,
Incased in ice, frozen at my side
Up against my cheek.

When my hand finally rises up to
My face, I am surprised
To find a trickle of water,
Still warm,
Making a river down my face.

All my tears are not yet done shedding,
I realize, standing there,
Alone.

Incased in ice,
I find myself crying
For what I used to have,
Broken and gone forever.

‘My fault,’ the wind whispers
Into my ear, then clearer, louder,
‘Your fault.’

And the part of me out there,
Still warm inside,
Weeps for what it has caused
And paid just for one choice,
Chosen too quick, but too late to change.

‘My life is broken and gone forever,’
She whispers to the wind,
And it carries like an echo across the desert.
