I am from the horse swing
from the memories and the park across the street.
I am from the willow tree, lazy swaying, smelling like spring.
I am from the Strawberries that Grandpa and I picked.
The river whose streams tell of the journey.

I am from Grandma’s roast and church services
from Grandpa and Uncle John.
I am from the punmasters and followers of Christ.
From your face is going to stay that way’s and it’s been great to be seen’s.

I am from sermon notes and hymnal books.
I’m from my Mother’s side, pancakes and potlucks.
From the Valentines day my Dad brought my Mom poinsettias,
the dance routines and the Pfeil spas and plays.

I am from those moments.
Being taught right from wrong,
given the freedom to learn what I believe and think on my own
I am from these memories stitched together
from my verse book and awana badges.
I am from the Lord I serve.
The things i’ve learned, I’m ready to share.
That’s where I’m from, that’s formed where I’ll be.

This piece has gotten me to think about who I am and how far I've come. It's been one of my favorite pieces to write.
