Our Blood

I've dreamt of an older brother
To watch over me
To guide me through my troubles
Seeing what I can't see

For fifteen years I've been
One of only two
Now half of me connects
To a brother I never knew

Now that this comes to light
I wonder about him
I think of the ones he loves
And how I'm not part of them

We are separated
By ten whole years of life
He doesn't know my troubles
And I don't know his strife

Can one ever help to bridge
This never ending flood
Of a family torn apart
to be connected by their blood

On January 1st, of this year, I was told I have a half brother. All my life its been just my sister and I, but now I have a brother. This poem represents all that ran through my head and my feelings about the matter.
