I am unwritten words and silent yearning
I wonder why the heart beats; why it slows and stops
I hear echoes of distant smiles
I see vague images and blurred concepts
I want to know
I am unwritten words and silent yearning

I pretend to smile
I feel the length and width of words
I touch the walls that surround me, separate me
I worry about the roots and rocks on the road ahead
I cry when it’s crowded and I’m alone
I am unwritten words and silent yearning

I understand the depth of scribbled letters
I say the world is endless and I will never know enough
I dream of a scalpel in hand and a heart’s beat depending on it
I try to break through the walls with a broken chisel
I hope for green in jean pockets and hands entwined
I am unwritten words and silent yearning
