Bicycle

August 9, 2008
By Christine Willinger, Madison, NJ

Inhale slices of foggy sky
White-washed knuckles
Curls toss in the serpentine breeze
Hesitation evaporates into humid mist
Guts are unfurled

The unlikely couple
Mesmerized by a maze of burning metal
Spin through identical cornfields
A jungle of seamless spider webs
Laced with toxic honey dew

Interrupted by invading tractor trailers
Sneakers escape monsters' clenching teeth
Centimeters from sweltering cobblestones
Leaving elongated shadows
In the venomous industrial dust
